How's This For An Original Insight Into the 'Character' of Sauron in Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' Trilogy (Or, More Correctly, Sextuplet of Six Successive 'Books'): As (Im)pure Evil Incarnate/the (Undying) Embodiment of Sheer, Unadulterated Evil and As One Whose Evil Eye Can Follow Folk Wheresoever It Happens to Range, 'He' Does Bear More Than a Passing Resemblance to 'The Great Dragon, That Ancient Serpent, the Devil and Satan' as John the Revelator's 'Apocalypse' Delineates the Author and Instigator of Evil, Once Dubbed 'Lucifer' Denoting His One-Time Position as the (Then Heavenly-Situated) Guardian Cherub Closest Geographically and in Power and Influence to the Godhead...

As one equally perceptive singer-songwriter once put things... '[the one who] write(s) the songs that make the whole world sing '... '[the one who] ha [s] [his] home deep within [each one of) us '... '[the one who's] been around forever '...   Hey, don't the sacred Scriptures say something mighty similar?

The World Lost An Incomparable & Irreplaceable Person Upon That Fateful Day of November 22nd, 1963: No, Not (Necessarily) 'JFK', But the Noted Author - Arguably the Globe's Greatest Ever 'Apologist' for the Christian Faith - C[live] S[taples] Lewis...Also Known (and Acknowledged - EXCEPT by his Longstanding Inkling Buddy JRR Tolkien, No Less!) for his (Arguably, Brilliant Albeit Allegorical) Narnia Series, Especially That All-Time Classic, 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe': In which, Incidentally, This Lowly Pleb and Punter Played a Part (As a Faun; in Andrew Adamson's Cinematic Adaptation of the Same; in November 2004; Out on the Screens, in Time for my 41st Birth-Anniversary, and my Varsity Graduation, by December 2005): Initially, By his Own, Refreshingly Frank and Candid (Though Naturally, Extremely Subjective) Admission/Public Confession, THE All-Time, Single Most Dejected Convert to the Christian Faith Ever

Maybe - despite his gender - and alongside another male, the equally incomparable, irascible and idiosyncratic, iconoclastic H Scott Peck, one of my all-time true 'soul-mates'...

As Aragorn (So Decisively, and Against Gandalf's 'Better Judgment')) Asserts/Argues Before the United Company of GOOD Middle Earthians Prior to the Final, (Presumably) Decisive Battle Royale at the Gates of Mordor: "No, I believe that Sauron WILL fall for the bait [i.e. the diversionary strategy/ tactics selfsame company were employing/adopting to give the two hobbits Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee sufficient cover and time to complete their precious and all-important mission to dispose once and for all of the 'One Ring' (of Sauron)]"...

And thus and so the precious Lord and Saviour of Mankind Himself effectively 'called the devil's bluff' by voluntarily taking the blood-stained path to the lonely hill of Golgotha... ...thus likewise achieving complete & everlasting security for many truly grateful citizens of Planet Earth. Yes, the humble 'road less travelled' thus proved (as in LOTR) the all-availing one...

"It's a Dangerous Business Going Out Of Your Door in the Morning, Mr Frodo, You Never Know [Quite What Will Befall You]."

In a Hole in the Ground There Lived a Hobbit: In Memorium to Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, Upon Their Magnificent Achievement of Reaching the Grand Old Age of 111 'Apiece'!

Now I don't like half of you half as much as I should, and the other half less than half of what you think I do... or some such To Be Continued...sooner than later (I'm hoping!)

"Yet THERE IS A MAGIC GREATER AND MORE ANCIENT THAN THAT OF THE WHITE WITCH (Of Narnia)...For When An Innocent Victim Is Slain Upon The Stone Table, Time Itself Will Split (In Two) And Start to Go Backwards

Yes indeed, as Aslan so knowingly informed the Pedensey girls as they cried tears of joy upon seeing the beloved Lion-King of Narnia resurrect to life over the Stone Table he'd only recently been slain upon, the White Witch of Narnia's unlawful usurpation of rulership upon Narnia had now finally been broken, as Aslan's willingness to suffer martyrdom for the life of the traitor Edward (Pedensey) was an act of such vicarious selflessness that it had power to change things (upon Narnia) for good... And thus and so the supreme sacrifice of Jesus the Christ 'once for all [time]' upon Calvary's 'old rugged cross' for the sins of all mankind ushered in a new epoch in the affairs of not only Planet Earth and all humanity past, present and future, but of the Universe itself, and all the unfallen worlds... one whereby the [great] dragon...that old serpent, which is/called the Devil, and Satan having prevailed not  (in heaven)... was cast out (for goo...

"The World Has Changed...I Can Smell It in the Trees, I Can Feel It in the Air...Some Things That Were ARE No Longer, Some Things ARE That Once Were Not...Some Things That Should Not Have Been, Have Been Forgotten. History Has Become Myth, Myth Has Become Legend": So Spake 'the Lady Galadriel' at the Outset of the 2002 Cinematic Interpretation of the First Book in 'The Lord of the Rings' Trilogy, 'The Fellowship of the Ring'...

And so, in this complex, multifaceted and multidimensional tale set in the backwash of and partly inspired by J R R Tolkien's (and close friends') experiences in the trenches of World War 1, we hear an echo of the 'new world' we're all waking up into today, where we are told we'll need to adjust to 'the new normal', whatever that means and will ultimately be... Curiously and coincidentally enough, a brave new world  so to speak itself bearing remarkable resonances with if not actual echoes of the new world Tolkien himself experienced in the not so long ago, and one - like his - affected irrevocably by events surrounding that selfsame epic war... Though truth be told, the actual death rate now being racked up across our globe from covid-19 is *nothing like that of the post-WW1 'Spanish Flu', which sent many tens of millions to a premature grave... After (really Afore)Thought: Yet when first hearing the above words (from the first of the Lor...

Yet However Cliche-Ridden and Trite and Commonplace the Saying Most Assuredly Is, Hope Doth Indeed Spring Eternal...

Sam[wise Gamgee] struggled with his own weariness...Then at last, to keep himself awake, he crawled from the hiding place and looked out. The land seemed full of creaking and cracking and sly noises...Far above the Ephel Duath...the night-sky was still dim and pale. There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.

"I wish I'd NEVER been born, Gandalf, I wish the [one] ring [of Sauron] had NEVER come to me, I wish NONE OF THIS had ever happened!" "NONE who live to see such days wish for that, Frodo, but THAT is not for you or any of us to determine. It is only for us to choose how to make the most of the time appointed to us."

Or as the late, great comedian Robin Williams might have expressed things: " Carpe Diem! [Seize the day]. Make the most of the time allotted you, for as the wisest man who ever lived, Israel's King Solomon, expressed it, at the conclusion of a long and eventually fraught reign, " Give a serving to seven, even to eight, for you do not know what evil will be upon the earth." ( Ecclesiastes 11:1-2.) Whereas the prophet Jeremiah, in gentle admonishment of weary and worn worshippers of the One True God - Jehovah [Yahweh] - put matters thusly: "If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is (indeed) small."
